Photographic darkroom rentals will range in price depending on where you want to go. Some schools may offer their students free time in a darkroom but you might have to share with others that want to develop their film as well. Visit the facility and take a look at the equipment they offer. Notice the different chemicals and solutions they have for you to use, as well as the lights, sinks, timers, and paper. If you want to develop digital pictures you can see if they have a studio for you to work in to edit the picture before making any prints. Look at the filters, enlargers, and other equipment you're welcome to use when renting the darkroom. If you have only recently developed a hobby into taking photographs with your camera you may want to ask if you can have a technician with you to help explain the process and go over how to make custom negatives safely. They may have a supply store nearby so you can buy materials you prefer to use rather than what they have in the darkroom. A used supply store can have more affordable options for beginners that want to see which they would prefer to buy new. Printing images, such as portraits or landscapes may require careful attention when developing the film. If you are using a darkroom for the first time you may want to consider developing something you already have to get a feel for the materials and equipment you will be using before developing something new or important.

In such circumstances, photographers will often rent out a darkroom from a facility that specializes in renting out darkrooms. Some darkroom rental businesses will rent out a darkroom to a photographer that only that photographer will be able to use. Other darkroom rental services will rent out darkrooms to several photographers at a time and these photographers must share the darkroom. Some darkroom rental facilities have all the darkroom equipment and chemicals a photographer needs to develop film while others may have the equipment but the photographer must supply the chemicals.
